The Goodwill Social Work Centre

The Malian Foundation Case Studies Series

The India-based Goodwill Social Work Centre, from its inception 25 years ago, always strove to aid as many disadvantaged Indian families as it could. The centre’s Executive Director, Professor Chris Daniel, came to realise that by increasing public awareness of its activities, the centre could raise more funds and be of better assistance to its stakeholders. He came across the Malian Foundation when reading the India Express Daily newspaper and decided to see if the Foundation could assist the organization.

The Malian Foundation’s Empowering Communities Program assisted the Goodwill Social Work Centre become clear about what it aimed to achieve, provided tools to ensure the organization adhered to best-practice financial control and accountability methods and provided ways to raise its profile within the Indian community.

The Malian Foundation’s Consulting Services Program built and promoted a website where people could find out more about what the centre did, created an online donation facility where people who supported the centre could provide financial support, actively represented the centre within Australia through the Foundation’s Sydney office to assist the centre find more supporters and partners, and provided the centre with assistance in creating fundraising proposals.

Our assistance resulted in the Goodwill Social Work Centre winning a lucrative grant from Panda Software which enabled it to realise its long held ambition of creating a Community Technology Centre. The Centre also significantly raised its profile within the Indian media with multiple articles and increased from 12 websites mentioning the Centre’s work to over 500.

In line with the Malian Foundations philosophy of creating long-term solutions we are continuing to assist the centre through various joint-project initiatives such as the Disadvantaged Youth Employment Training Project and the Human Rights Training Project.
